Furniture built from on-site measurements, for Berlin flats

Standard furniture rarely fits a Berlin period flat, a 1930s housing estate or a post-war flat: crooked walls, high ceilings and skewed floor plans are only some of the reasons. We build every piece from on-site measurements, whether that is a fitted shelf, a solid wood dining table or a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe wall, from the first sketch to installation in your flat.

When standard furniture will not fit

Mass-produced furniture comes in standard sizes, so it fits neither under a sloped ceiling nor against a period wall that leans by three centimetres. A carpenter measures on site and builds to those measurements. Then there is the construction: solid timber where you want it, rather than coated chipboard, and classic joints that still hold perfectly decades later. And you have a say in the shape and material of your own piece.

Built-In Shelving & Storage

Shelving, sideboards and fitted storage built into alcoves, under sloped ceilings and along wall lines that are not straight. A fitted piece can follow a wall that leans. A bought one leaves a wedge of dead space behind it.

Dining tables, beds, chests and sideboards in solid wood, made in our Berlin-Treptow workshop. Oak, walnut, ash or cherry as you prefer.

Home Office & Desks

Workspaces built to measure, with cable routing, lighting and a working height set to your own. For studies that have to be fitted into a flat.

Room Dividers & Special Builds

Freestanding room dividers, platforms, loft beds with storage and one-off constructions for the cases where no standard piece will do.

Materials & Finishes

We work in oak, walnut, ash, beech and cherry and many other native species, and in some exotic species on request. For finishes we use oils and hard wax oils as well as traditional and modern lacquers. The fittings for drawers, hinges and pull-outs come from well-known, high-quality manufacturers.

Furniture we have built

Oak washstand mounted off the wall, with two drawers and milled finger pulls. An open shelf section sits lower to the left, with the WC and a level-access shower behind.

Both washstands hang off the wall, without feet, so the floor stays visible underneath and the room feels bigger. Two drawers each, with finger pulls milled into the front.

Berlin-Steglitz

Home office with a room-height fitted wall

A room-height fitted wall with ten doors in the upper section, three drawers above a recess for an electric piano, an open shelf bay, and a sliding-door compartment under the desk. The desktop was part of the commission; the height-adjustable frame was supplied by the client. White fronts, with a continuous band of solid oak running through them.

A fitted cupboard in solid pine, of the kind still found in Berlin period flats: newly made, but with cabinet fittings as they were a hundred years ago.

Berlin-Mitte

Cologne-Nippes

Chest and shelf in one piece, veneered in oak. It stands beside an armchair in a room that has to be several things at once: a surface to put things down, shelving, and storage for bed linen and blankets.

Berlin-Weißensee

A lidded keepsake box: the sides dark and flamed in walnut veneer, the lid pale and figured in masur ash with a narrow mahogany border, the surface polished to a shine.

A two-part lamp arm in dark oiled jatoba, mounted on the ceiling with a joint at its centre. The lamp cable hangs from the free end.

The arm swings so the dining lamp hangs centred over the table, including when the table is extended and therefore standing somewhere else.

Berlin-Schöneberg

A cherry games table: the recessed playing surface in dark grey felt, half covered by a solid top laid over it. Glass holders with glasses and several trays hook onto the edges.

Games table for large board games

Large board games run long and occupy the table. This one is in oiled American cherry: panels drop in to make a second level, so the game stays set up underneath while dinner happens on top.

Berlin-Britz

Dining table in Swiss pear

A classic, rustic dining and kitchen table in solid wild service tree, which the timber trade also calls Swiss pear. The top is four centimetres thick, glued up from several boards and held flat by two breadboard battens. An apron runs beneath it, and four straight legs of square section stand at the corners.

Potsdam

Wheelchair-accessible kitchen and dining table

A small table for a narrow kitchen that has to be worktop, kitchen table and dining table at once. The client uses a wheelchair. A space-saving solution was asked for: folded, the top is 45 centimetres wide at the seating sides. For meals, two very light leaves on one side fold out with one hand, and the top becomes 60 centimetres wide.

A first visit at home. We take the measurements ourselves and go through materials, finishes and how the piece will actually be used.

Design & Quote

From the measurements we produce a design with drawings and a fixed-price quote broken down by item.

Workshop Production

Your piece is made in the Treptow workshop, with traditional joints and a hand-finished surface.

Delivery & Installation

Delivery on the agreed date and installation in your home. We take the offcuts away with us.
