Sideboard for the Hufeisensiedlung

2.20 m wide · 1.60 m high · 55 cm deep · maple plywood, oiledBerlin-Britz2021

The piece stands against the wall of a staircase. Open compartments below for books and children’s toys.

To the right the top continues and becomes a desk for a child. Above it stands a closed cabinet where the television and stereo disappear. The TV cabinet picks up the rake of the stairs.

The design came clearly from the client: modern, in a pale material, set against the historic building the piece stands in. Made in oiled maple multiplex, its layers left visible at the edges.

Sideboard in light maple plywood under a staircase: open compartments and doors below, a continuous top above that becomes a desk on the right, and a closed two-door cabinet for the television and stereo on the left. Behind it a wall in a mottled red-grey plaster finish.
