Wheelchair-accessible kitchen and dining table
A small table for a narrow kitchen that has to be worktop, kitchen table and dining table at once. The client uses a wheelchair. A space-saving solution was asked for: folded, the top is 45 centimetres wide at the seating sides. For meals, two very light leaves on one side fold out with one hand, and the top becomes 60 centimetres wide.
The table stands on sledge feet instead of four legs, so the wheelchair can roll up to the ends without obstruction. A flat drawer on each seating side holds napkins and small things. Solid alder, oiled.
The difficult part was the delicate folding mechanism, so that the table opens and folds away again with little force and one hand.
The photographs were taken in the workshop, before delivery.
